This Journey

Thoughts, rants, prayers, sermons I'll never give and other stuff gathered as I make my way through this life.

Grateful: Easter 2 edition

A short list of a few of the things for which I’m grateful this week:

  1. An amazing Easter dinner with G, his son J, J’s wife M and M’s entire family. Including a lovely drive there and back with M’s parents.
  2. A great meeting on Monday where we are very excited about a partnership growing between churches and community organizing between South African churches and congregations in the United States. We’d like to send 5-6 people to SA in July to help kick-off a renewed organizing effort in Capetown and then attend week-long training in Soweto. (unfortunately I won’t be able to attend)
  3. A great lunch meeting with KBM re: the film study we were starting on Thursday
  4. JH started as senior instructional designer on Monday! I have help at Evil Corporate Job now, AND someone to groom for my replacement.
  5. DS1 got his braces off.
  6. DS1 had a great visit to Iowa State and is coming to a conclusion about which offer he will accept.
  7. Going to the Twins game with DS1 and DS2 and G on Tuesday. Free baseball (extra innings) and great entertainment from the Blue Jay fans sitting behind us.
  8. DS1′s opening game on Wednesday.
  9. G bringing me some dinner (Chicago dog and diet coke) at the game
  10. Seeing a bit of DS2′s opening game on Thursday before heading over to church to lead the film study
  11. A good turnout for the film study and some lively discussion
  12. Spending Friday evening with G when it turned out the boys had plans with their friends.
  13. Attending a good workshop on Saturday re: Book of Faith initiative.
  14. Spending Saturday afternoon/evening with G. Wonderful conversation about big topics and silly topics
  15. Watching "A Night at the Opera" (Marx Brothers) with G on Saturday evening
  16. Being able to laugh heartily, many times this week, about how my life at Evil Corporate Job is a lot like that movie "Office Space." (JB has now decided I should move into LN’s old office, I have another person reporting to me, and am tasked with developing an "emerging leaders" development program. In other words, I keep not caring and they keep promoting and giving me more status indicators. Crazy.)
  17. Spending time talking with G about work stuff (his and mine) as well as sharing stories about Big Truths in our lives
  18. The fact that Libby the Wonder Poodle and Snowy the Rat in a Dogsuit (G’s long haired chiahuahua) are getting along.
  19. A great conversation with MC about garden planning. I think we’ll break ground next weekend!

A paradox wrapped in an enigma playing the accordion. I'm a sinner-saint, child of God working at the cross-roads of church and world. A Deaconess called to connect people living near the center with people on the edge and to help your life sing (literally and figuratively) while doing it. People don't always get the deaconess part. Could be the swearing, the corporate job, or the wine.
