This Journey

Thoughts, rants, prayers, sermons I'll never give and other stuff gathered as I make my way through this life.

Grateful: End of Summer Edition

A weekly round-up of all the stuff I can remember from the week for which I’m grateful. Not in any particular order and with no guarantee of completeness.

  1. Even though Boss Lady and the Sand Bats (I think that’s going to be my new band name) were in town this week, I gave myself permission to not obsess about being early and staying late. Whatever was going to get done got done anyway.
  2. I still have some friends in the neighborhood I can call on at 8:30 at night for a ride to the ER.
  3. G said he would have come to get me, but understands that under these circumstances waiting 30+ minutes for him to get to my house would have been silly, had it been an actual cardiac event.
  4. Which it wasn’t. A cardiac event, that is.
  5. That the ER doc was not intent on doing every single cardiac test in the book before deciding that I really am not a high risk for that sort of thing and I could follow-up on the rest “ambulatory” (which means I didn’t get admitted.)
  6. I could get in to see my primary doc only two days later. (That’s pretty good for this system)
  7. She takes me seriously and knows that something is up.
  8. Abdominal CT scans are not painful. Uncomfortable maybe, what with the barium smoothies and all but not painful.
  9. I’m grateful that they haven’t called me with any results yet. They’d only call on Friday or Saturday with something really really bad.
  10. G brought dinner over both Wednesday and Thursday night because I was feeling crummy.
  11. DS2 and I went school shopping for him on Saturday and it only cost me $130. And that included a rain jacket for DS1.
  12. DS1 started classes and it all seems to be falling in to place fairly smoothly for him. I got to talk with him several times – either through texts, email and some phone calls – got some book situations straightened out and heard a little about how things were going. Stalking him on FB netted me much more information in wall posts to friends and cousins. He’s loving it down there which makes me very, very happy.
  13. DS1 went with friends to a small(er) town outside Ames for the town festival on Friday/Saturday. Sounds like they had fun.
  14. Friday, my grandmother had a stroke. I’m grateful about this because the meeting with the doctor went about as well as it could go, and because my uncle is refusing to participate it was an easier meeting than it could have been.
  15. I got a bunch of laundry done today.
  16. LA came over today to meet Libby the Wonder Poodle. Liz will be staying at the house next weekend and watching Libby and Snowy (G’s dog) while we go to Chicago to see his mom and one of his two brothers.
  17. I got to see DS2′s first varsity soccer game on Friday.
  18. I’ve started practicing for a 2nd interview for a Music Director job. It’s good to be playing and singing again. I’m starting to get my hopes up about this job. I’m grateful for that because I feel better when I have hope and a fantasy of leaving Evil Corporate Job sooner rather than later.
  19. DS2 starts school on Tuesday.

Author: Not Fainthearted

A paradox wrapped in an enigma playing the accordion. I'm a sinner-saint, child of God working at the cross-roads of church and world. A Deaconess called to connect people living near the center with people on the edge and to help your life sing (literally and figuratively) while doing it. People don't always get the deaconess part. Could be the swearing, the corporate job, or the wine.

  1. I’m glad your okay. I guess that would be top on my grateful list.

  2. Well in the midst of what was a pretty intense week for you I am glad you are able to see all the blessings both big and small. I want an update on how many of my rules/advice DS1 has broken or disregarded :)
