This Journey

Thoughts, rants, prayers, sermons I'll never give and other stuff gathered as I make my way through this life.

Peeks of La Dolce Vita

I hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. I was struck, as I am every year, by how good we are getting at thanking our service people and being respectful – at least in lip service – about them doing what we have asked them to do. And at the same time, I wish there was a way our society could look at all those sacrificed as say “enough.”

On a cheerier note, here’s a little of what I did this weekend.

Put plants in the ground, moved mini boulders, took ibuprofen, sat on a restaurant deck by the river, skipped church, cleaned the house (both bathrooms!), finished knitting a baby sweater, made some kick-ass potato salad, had my friend JH over for dinner, sipped mexican tequila, grilled an awesome sirloin, went to get pie, had a car breakdown, got helped by several strangers, slept in, cleaned the smoker, smoked ribs, bbq’d chicken, had G’s kids over for dinner on Monday, got to know the mama of the grandbaby, enjoyed the bits of my garden that got planted, comforted dogs from thunderstorms and watched goofy movies.

Here are a few pictures to that effect.

A paradox wrapped in an enigma playing the accordion. I'm a sinner-saint, child of God working at the cross-roads of church and world. A Deaconess called to connect people living near the center with people on the edge and to help your life sing (literally and figuratively) while doing it. People don't always get the deaconess part. Could be the swearing, the corporate job, or the wine.
