There was Willard’s whole big announcement on Saturday and the closing ceremonies of the 30th Summer Games. But all I’m focused on today is that I’m taking DS1 back to school.
The thing about this summer is that I had in my head that he needed to go back on the 20th. Turns out that’s when classes start. He wanted to move back on the 11th – the first day he could have gotten in the dorm but I talked him into waiting until today.
Things are moving slowly… he forgot some stuff at his dad’s and he didn’t really pack anything over the weekend, although he did go to the storage unit and retrieve his mini fridge and ginormous speakers.
The weekend wiped me out so I’m not too disappointed that we didn’t get on the road at the Kracken of Dawn, but if we don’t get moving soon, I’ll be driving home in the dark.
I have lots of thoughts on the “big events” of the weekend, but I’m just not sure that I’m ready to share them. There are more trolls on the inner webs than there were in 2004 when I started this blog, partially in reaction to the “re-election” of GWB. I’m just not sure I’m up for dealing with it.
The public debate is so vicious now and I’m just not sure any of this changes anyone’s mind…. as much as I would hope my well-reasoned arguments would.
At the same time, it is so very true that the only thing that is required for evil and oppression to succeed is for people of good intent to keep silent. Or something like that.
What are you going to do? Are you discussing our public life together (politics) or are you opting out? Self-medicating with sports and reality TV? What is your strategy?
