It takes a village

I’ve scanned in some pictures from previous trips to Holden to keep you company while I’m gone.
A final shot of the village. Again, I wish there was smell-o-vision for blogs. The scent of the cedar trees, the warm earth, fresh bread baking and the warmth of the sun or the cool rain on your skin [...]

From Domke Lake (which is a backpack overnight hike we took in 2002.)

A year ago on This Journey I posted pictures of the abscessed doggie.

This lonesome valley

I’ve scanned in some pictures from previous trips to Holden to keep you company while I’m gone.
Another shot of Copper Basin. It’s one of the prettiest destinations of the hikes, even if it is the hardest (IMO)

A year ago on This Journey it was a Libby the Adventure Poodle update .

Valderee, valderah

I’ve scanned in some pictures from previous trips to Holden to keep you company while I’m gone.
…valderah, hah, hah, hah, hah, hah, hah
Here are the boys in 2000 as we set off on a hike up valley.

A year ago on This Journey I was learning that some people were actually reading this thing! Including a [...]

Copper peak from Copper basin

I’ve scanned in some pictures from previous trips to Holden to keep you company while I’m gone.

Copper basin is a short (3 mile one way) hike from the village but it has a 2300 foot elevation change. Up. As in climbing steeply for most of the hike. It’s a hike I’ve only done twice. I [...]

Anywhere that you go

I’ve scanned in some pictures from previous trips to Holden to keep you company while I’m gone.
Looking up valley (west. more or less) from the main road of the village.

And the general layout. So many hikes. So little time. And so much altitude!

A year ago on This Journey I was worried about money and the [...]

Here at last…again

Good and gracious creator, you made everything so good. Even the birds and the little chipmunks. My only question, good Lord, is why? Why do you make them wake so early, and start making their loud squeeky conversation outside my window at 3:48 a.m.? Sqeeking and chirping and squawking on and on and on? So [...]

A long and winding road

The road from the lake up to the village has a few switchbacks.

But the view of the lake from the road is spectacular…at least from the first few switchbacks.

Chelan, WA

I’ve scanned in some pictures from previous trips to Holden to keep you company while I’m gone.

Chelan is a little resort town at the south-eastern tip of Lake Chelan on the eastern slope of the Cascade Mountains. Our vacation starts here with a night at the Field’s Point bed and breakfast on Sunday night. Field’s [...]

Life is so much better with travel on the horizon

In today’s mail, I got concrete confirmation of not one, but TWO (2!!!) road trips for the Journey clan!
1) Plane Tickets to Phoenix for the end of April. (They’re actually e-tickets, which I got in the e-mail the day I made the reservations, but these are much more O-fficial, and therefore more Ex-citing. Don’t you [...]

Welcome!

11/18/08 Note: In preparation for being away from the computer for a while, I've turned off comment moderation because I want you to be able to interact with my guest posters. Be good while I'm gone kids!

Welcome to the new (and hopefully permanent) home of This Journey. It's good to have people walking along, especially during the bumpy parts. I can be contacted at not.fainthearted at gmail dot com. Or leave a comment!
