Gone Fishin’

Hey dance fans.
The boys and Libby the Wonder Poodle and I am heading out of town for the weekend. Plan is to picnic with the cousins in Duluth this evening then caravan over to their family cabin in Northern Wisconsin (near the U.P.)
Catch up posts, with pics when I return to civilization and broadband.
Have a [...]

Annunciation

Announcement.
Yesterday was the commemoration of the day Mary found out she was pregnant. Can you imagine having the rest of the world for millennium know about (and remember) the day you realized you were late?

Above is an icon, the prototype is from the 1300’s (14th century) and below, a version of the same scene by [...]

Easter Sunday 2008

It’s still snowy here. In case you wondered.
It was great metaphor for the sermon today, though. Jesus’ resurrection being a kind of hope for the future like a guy standing knee deep in snow declaring it’s going to be summer soon.
Anyway. I thought I’d share a poem (hymn) from the vigil service last night. (yes, [...]

Three Days

It is Holy Week. In fact it is the end of Holy Week, which means that folks who work in the church are super stressed and busy. And folks who take the church year thing seriously are in church a LOT this week.
Yesterday, we heard and remembered Jesus’ Last Supper. What is often glossed over [...]

2008 - another new start

Healthy dining as a hallmark of a new years’ celebration:
Dinner last night was hazelnut encrusted salmon, roasted potatoes and asparagus and a beautiful Cabernet from my collection. I should have taken a picture because it was beautiful. And delicious.
We watched movies and snuggled on the couch and then watched the Prairie Home Companion New Years’ [...]

Merry Christmas!

Hope you all had a wonderful day.
After the Santa presents and breakfast, the boys started getting ready to go with X for the next couple of days. It wasn’t exactly in my plan but it makes sense that they’ll be staying with him tonight. But DS1 was still in the shower at 11:00 and I [...]

Christmas Lullaby

One more present for you.
This is from the concert recording. It’s Three Men and a Banjo and Me. (except the banjo player is playing fiddle and one of the guitar players got demoted to finger cymbals. Bummer.)

The day before is the day of

My mom’s family, being Scandinavian and all, made and makes a much bigger deal of Christmas Eve than of Christmas Day.
So today is the big day. The day that all the preparation has been aimed. The deadline.  It’s not the final day of preparation. That was yesterday and I was too exhausted to see much [...]

Blue Christmas

Today is the winter solstice. I learned yesterday about a liturgical recognition of this day called a “Blue Christmas Service.” Some of the sisters on the east coast are leading these services tonight.
I think it’s a wonderful idea for the church to recognize that this is a very hard time for a lot of people. [...]

Last Minute Stocking Stuffers

It’s Wednesday and I’m skipping the choir party to see Mr. Hockey tonight. I’m not ashamed to admit that there’s a little lilt in my step today because of it.
I am basically done (except for groceries) with whatever sort of commercialism I’m participating in this year. Which, to my chagrin, is far more than I [...]
