The one where I scream like a girl

Or, "I’d like someone else to do my killin’, thankyouverymuch."
One of the more disturbing discoveries I’ve made during The Great Declutter of ‘08 is the unmistakable evidence that we are not alone in the house. Yes, it looked like Mickey and Minnie were shacking up with us.
Like any self-respecting shame filled home-maker, I bought a [...]

So, you think you’re “in charge” huh?

Or, “What a difference a week makes.”
I was just thinking this morning, as I dragged my exhausted and somewhat unkempt self out of bed, how laughable last Saturday’s post is.
I actually thought that I could “decide” to save more money by calling a moratorium on non-essential spending. I actually thought I had that level of [...]

Leaks like a sieve

Like I didn’t spend three evenings working on it instead of cleaning other things. Or working.
I probably need to find another place for CS to stay this weekend. I can’t exactly expect her to stay here without a shower and only a grody tub.

Shower Adventures: The Caulk Gun Strikes Back

My shower looks like an accident in a cake frosting factory. But hopefully it’s waterproof. And will last until I can pull together the funds to tear it out and fix it the right way, with new backer board and actual grout and all.
Went to see the “Sex and the City” movie with a bunch [...]

Shower Adventure Part Deux

After discovering that the bottom row of tiles were held onto the wall only by mildewy caulking, our Heroine returned to The Oracle for information, advice, and more tools.
Our Heroine knows that there is always more than one way to skin a cat. Or to accomplish any home repair project.
1) The Right Way (which usually [...]

Shower Adventure

So, I had a friend with a steam cleaner come in and clean my shower. You know, to get all the soap scum and mildew off the tile and grout and such.
Of course, the steam cleaner removed some of the grout/caulk along with the mildew that was in there so then the shower leaked like [...]

too much

There’s too much on my plate to even make sense of it. I’m handling things well, as long as I keep my event horizon to about 4 hours. When I don’t, I get the overwhelmies with a side of bone-crushing loneliness. Just saying.
I’m looking for big strong friends with power tools to come over to [...]

Water work

Last Friday.
Manhole maintenance takes place year-round…even in Minneapolis.
This hole was only slightly larger than the one the plumber needed to make in the dining room wall in order to access the shower faucet plumbing.
But now we have a new faucet that meets code and will prevent all the shower-ers from being scalded. And a new [...]

It’s just cabin fever….it’ll go away

Oh friends. My brain has been addled with all sorts of tomfoolery these last several days (and weeks.)
I’m staring down the barrel of a cannon’s worth of activity: TWO jobs, plus single parenting, plus Mr. Hockey; and all I can think of is adding more into the mix. What’s up with that??
I am desperately wanting [...]
