Ideal<->Reality: Living Room Edition

I’m jumping in feet first with this idea from Peter Walsh (h/t Colleen The Communicatrix) about articulating what you WANT your life to be like before you tackle getting your home to embody that. This little series will be a description of what I want for a particular room accompanied by the before pictures. Later, [...]

Power Tools are a girl’s best friend – UPDATED

We’re playing with power tools today at Chez Journey. And I’m not just talking Vacuum Cleaners.
Pictures later.
In the meantime, enjoy an oldie. (I wish I could have found Ann Reed’s “Power Tools” but she’s not on the YouTube. *sigh*) (it’s a different song than this one.) (although this one has it’s, uh, charms.)
UPDATE:

The things I learned today

Turns out the lovely color (Eve Green….I know. The name doesn’t do it justice) that I picked for the dining room, thanks to my friend BP, needs to have a "deep tint" primer. Because otherwise it would take probably four coats to cover. Cover what? That would be the WHITE PRIMER I SPENT MOST OF [...]

DS2: Mom?
Me: mmm?
DS2: Have you heard any mice in your room?
Me:  mmmhuh?
DS2: Have you heard mice in your room tonight yet?
Me: uh, no, I don’t think so. Not yet, why?
DS2: So you think that extra stuff helped?
Me: I guess? why?
DS2: [looking tired and sad] cuz. I think they’re in my room now.
Me: did you [...]

almost like having a newborn

I haven’t slept well in weeks because of Mickey and friends. The last four nights I think I’ve slept maybe 4 hours each night.
Last night I woke at 2. Well, 1:57 according to the clock-radio. At 2:37 I just turned the light on and tried to sleep hugging a pillow in the very middle [...]

Work Weekend recap

I didn’t rest this weekend. Couldn’t. The boys were home and they’re my only possible help for the next several weeks.
Here’s a rundown of what the three of us accomplished.

Sat. morning trip to home depot: replacement chain switch for the light in the ceiling fan, faucet repair kit and a light fixture for over the [...]

Arms Race

The next battle begins next week.

Hopefully all the testimonials are not made up.

Oh, for a Kliban Cat

Do you know the Kliban Cats? If not, you’re probably not old. Like me.
Back in the late 70’s the strip ran in the local paper and I sort of fell for it. It had the same tone and flavor as The Far Side but with cats. It also was a little cute in the way [...]
