So Many Nights

I don’t know how I missed it, but my boys The Cat Empire have a new CD out there. It was my prize for getting all my work done.

They are seriously the most fun I’ve heard in a long time. Their sound just makes me happy. Even over a year after hearing them on Letterman [...]

Live is harder than Memorex

The intonation isn’t the best I’ve heard from these guys. But in their defense, it was 10 am. If pictures are worth a thousand words, The Sound is worth at least that much. Can’t get it (the sound) from the pages of a magazine, you know.

Note: don’t know how [...]

Holly Cole at The Dakota

I am so glad I spent the money on myself to go to hear her! I probably didn’t need to splurge on a Walleye Cesear and a scotch, but I did anyway.
As the set started I realized that I haven’t been to see live Jazz since I was in New York City in 2000. That [...]

Tonight at The Dakota Jazz Club

I’ve purchased a ticket at the bar.
I hope she sings “God will” by Lyle Lovett. From her “Blame It On My Youth” CD.
Great lyrics (below). She’s on iTunes. Check her out.

Of course, she changes the gender…I like that too. God being she, and all.
Who keeps on trusting you
When you’ve been cheating
And spending your nights [...]

Must be the June weddings?

Seriously. What’s up with all these March birthdays for musicians? Or at least musicians that I like or musicians I find significant in some way because they made an impact…even if the impact was/is “infamous” or goofy.
1940, 1946 and 1948. Isn’t it interesting what breadth a single decade produced?

  Liza Minnelli (Broadway)

Something in the stars?

March 11 is the anniversary of these three men with something rather interesting in common.
1903, 1921 and 1939. All about 17 years apart but from different areas of the world

Astor Piazzola
Flaco Jimenez
And then there’s my friend Dee. Her b-day is sometime around now too (I’m a bad friend, because I never [...]

Sound Track

At the end of April, I need to drive 6+ hours from Minneapolis to Ashland, NE (on the far side of Omaha about an hour.)
I’ll have my iPod adapter to play through my radio. Now I just need to make a playlist.
Any suggestions of a “must have” for a road trip playlist like this? Leave [...]

Insomnia

I don’t know if it’s the weather change, the final stage of SAD, something to do with the level of stress I’ve been dealing with or some weird grief work I’m finish about Mr. Hockey, but I’ve had a bit of insomnia for the last week or so.
Libby the Adventure Poodle has played her part [...]

U2 3D

Last night I took the boys (and DS1’s girlfriend) to see the U2 3D film at our favorite cineplex. Of course, being the crazy goof-ball I am, I relied on Fandango for show times. Yeah. I guess that’s wrong to do that. We busted our buns to get there by 6:00 for a 6:30 show [...]

I’d like to get this out of my head now, thank you

Not because it makes me cranky. But I think it’s a little silly to have this rumbling around as an ear worm when I’m trying to learn Distler’s Totentanz and plan Ash Wednesday services for 1st-6th graders. And it’s hard to do that when you’re either bobbing your head muttering “dang diggy diggy” or giggling [...]
