And sometimes there are bad days

Like today. When I find out that M&N are in town (not sleeping at their own house where X is living, but with their son & DIL) and will be going to the Star Wars exhibit with X and the boys tonight.
You can’t just get a couple of tickets for this exhibit. This has been [...]

back - sort of

I had to be at work today at 6:30 a.m.
I know people like Rich find that mundane, but I like to be aware of only 6:30 per day. That is not the one.
Anyway, I’m not prepared to spill the beans about the weekend just yet. Mostly because it’s 11 p.m. and I’m just a little [...]

Same Song; Different Day - My refrain

I got so much done today. yesterday. Coffee with KR, staff meeting at church, lunch meeting with neighboring pastor, L&D conference call, instructions written, meetings scheduled, sleeping bags washed and dried and hung on the line to dry some more, Transition report meeting attended.
And there is so much I left undone. Folded laundry not put [...]

All Creatures Great and Small

Saturday evening I spent a most enjoyable time visiting with SrK & J out at their house in the Country. The first line of her directions were “take 35 north FOREVER.” And she wasn’t lying.
They rent this cute littel farmhouse (and outbuildings) for $575 a month and it includes some number of grazing acres where J [...]

mid-summer

Should have used a tripod but it was too beautiful out there to go back and get it. We’ll have to deal with it.

Grateful Too

Some stuff that’s making me feel good this week. In no particular order:

DS2 had a beautiful and impressive showcase project for the end of 8th grade
DS1 said his finals were "easy" even though I know they are serious exams in the International Baccalaureat program.
I have a friend who is going to help me pick paint [...]

First Day of Summer Vacation

And DS1 is up at 8:00!!??!! Oh yeah. He’s going to Valley Fair with his friends.
They’re so smart they went and bought food for picnic lunches instead of paying for food in the park.
DS2 still sleeps and I wait for the contractor, even though I wouldn’t have to. In fact, I can’t. I look at [...]

June 11

they mentioned this morning on the radio that there are about 20 days to solstice. And then the days start getting shorter.
It sort of gave me a headache.
Work is crazy busy with trying to hire (!!!) two people. The shower progresses nicely, if slowly. It’s raining again like we need to built an ark and [...]

smell of the past

I came home today to inspect the progress on the shower repair. The contractor had removed the wall tiles and the board behind them.
The smell took me right back to my childhood; Camping and grandparents’ cabins. Specifically the outhouses. Not the sewage smell but the wet, mildewy, moldy wood smell. Not bad memories, just bad [...]

What is essential?

My last remark on yesterday’s post made me think of one of my favorite Steve Martin moments EVER.
Enjoy.
