Archive for CPE

here’s why you should have lunch with your CPE supervisor 3 months after he was supposed to finish your evaluation:

We had a great lunch. No supervisor/intern relationship hanging over it. Open communication. Friends.
He totally “gets” a bunch of my frustration from last fall about the micromanagment of the “other” group of clinical coordinators because he’s been working on a unit over there since the new year. Apparently, now that all the charting is on-line, [...]

One more thing before I go…

Missed the alarm this morning, so I’m late. Think they’ll fire me from CPE
As I review my current life, I’m so much happier than I’ve been in years.
Just the pressure and sheer exhaustion of the end of the semester, holidays and familial expectations letting those feelings of being ‘not enough’ sneak back in. [...]

reaching the final stretch…I think

I was up until after midnight yesterday. Still didn’t get the verbtims done, but mostly because I was brain dead. Choir rehearsal was FABULOUS! I am so lucky to get to work with these choirs! I suggested to KE that we do another choral vespers or maybe a “major work” in the spring. I’m kind [...]

weather…or not

The greyness of today seemed to seep into my bones.
I think I’d like to trade the mild temps for cold but clear now. It was no better than twilight all day today. Given my current state of stress and seasonal crapiness today was enough to make me want to crawl into a hole.
You know it’s [...]

it’s not scientific, but…

Last Friday I was on-call. It was 2 days before the full moon. It was, um, intense. I had about 12 referrals and at least 3 pages between 8-5. Luckily, no pages overnight.
Today? On-call again. 4 days after the full moon. 1 referral. To my own unit. No pages. All day. Tonight? So far, so [...]

CPE does it again

Today we spent the first 1.5 hours of our group time in a didactic (teaching session) on the Myers-Briggs and how it may or may not impact our future careers in organized religion (an oxymoron if there ever was one.)
The guy that did the session was really good but the handouts he gave us at [...]

Friday at last

I’m on-call today and boy! can you tell that it’s just a wee bit away from a full moon. Chased the whole entire day and didn’t get out of the hospital until 7 p.m. Hope it’s a quieter night.
I find it curious to learn that on days like this that are so mentally, spiritually and [...]

On-call with a new moon

In contrast to the last time I was on-call on a weekend, today was relatively calm. Or at least it is so far. There were about six referrals on the University side and only one on the Riverside side of the hospital. Two of the patients had discharged by the time I got to them, [...]

Still settling in

I ended up working all day at the hospital yesterday, which is weird because what with being on-call on Thursday, I was expecting to be able to call in and say I was taking the morning off as comp time. But the only pages that came (aside from the large-print Bible emergency) were after 6:30 [...]

Emergency?

On Monday, we had about an hour discussion during the “all staff” meeting about what constitutes a legitimate reason to page the on-call chaplain.
Tonight, I got a page at 7:05 to unit 3A, the secure chemical dependency unit. This unit has a chaplain that they hire directly…not through Spiritual Health Services, so usually, when the [...]

Welcome!
